Coordinator for Iraqi Women Peace Builders Conference
The Peacebuilding & Development Institute is partnering with the State Department’s Office for International Women’s Issues and Amideast to sponsor an Iraqi Women Peace Builders Conference in October 2008.
7-10 female civil society leaders from Iraq will come to Washington, DC for 2 ½ weeks for capacity-building training workshops, meetings with experts, messaging workshops, and public speaking engagements.
PDI has an immediate need for a Coordinator for this exchange program.
Duties will include:
-Managing logistics for some portions of the conference on behalf of PDI
-Coordinating with representatives from the State Department, Amideast, and PDI
-Assisting trainers and facilitators during trainings and workshops
-Assisting in the writing of the final report for the conference
-Serving as a point person, escort, and liaison for the women throughout the conference
-Stay with the delegation in their hotel during the conference
Qualifications:
-Arabic language proficiency preferred
-Self-starter, takes initiative, entrepreneurial
-Experience with planning and coordinating large-scale events or exchange programs
-Pays extreme attention to detail
-Academic and personal interest in women’s capacity-building, civil society, the Middle East
-Excellent writing, public speaking, and intercultural communication skills
-Maximum availability during the time period October 16th – November 5th, 2008
The Coordinator will earn a modest stipend. All meals and travel expenses will be paid for while Coordinator is with the delegation. Ideally, the Coordinator will have few outside commitments and will stay in a local hotel with the delegation. If necessary, PDI will hire two Coordinators in order to accommodate schedules.
Due to the sensitive nature of the Iraqi Women Peace Builders Conference, PDI will accept applications from women only.
